Charles Sousa elected as new Mississauga-Lakeshore MP

December 2022 - CONGRATULATIONS to our new MP Charles Sousa and to all the Mississauga-Lakeshore candidates who participated in the democratic process including at our Ward 1 Federal Parties Candidate Meeting on November 22, 2022.

CANDIDATES - IMAGE: Charles Sousa (Liberal), Julia Kole (NDP), Mary Kidnew (Green) and independent Peter House who arrived near the end of the Candidate meeting. The Conservative candidate Ron Chhinzer was a no-show.

Ward 1 Councillor Stephen Dasko Re-elected

CONGRATULATIONS: To Stephen Dasko, our re-elected Councillor for the Ward 1 seat on Mississauga Council following the municipal election on October 24, 2022.

The TOPCA Executive looks forward to continued collaboration with Stephen on the many exciting (and complex) issues in Port Credit and along the south-east Mississauga Waterfront, in consultation with the residents and other Ward 1 associations.

We look forward to Stephen's remarks during the TOPCA Town Hall & AGM on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Clarke Hall in Port Credit.

Thank you to the other Ward 1 Councillor candidates who offered their service to the community and ensured the campaign was civil, respectful of the citizens and centred on ideas and policies. We hope everyone stays engaged with the community over the next four years!

PORT CREDIT ALL-CANDIDATES DEBATE: Took place: Tuesday, May 17, 2022 @ 7:00 - 9:00 pm at Clarke Memorial Hall, 161 Lakeshore Road West, Port Credit. We are in the provincial riding of Mississauga-Lakeshore.

CANDIDATES: Nominations have closed and all candidates now appear on the revised poster. Elections Ontario has published the final Mississauga-Lakeshore list of Candidates.

HOSTING ORGANIZATIONS: Together with the Credit Reserve Association (CRA) representing the Mineola area, and The Compass Food Bank, we asked some of the tough questions that need to be answered, then turned it over to our residents for their questions at the open mic.

NOTE ABOUT TRUSTEE CANDIDATES: We have received requests for inclusion of duly nominated Ward 1+7 Trustee candidates at this Debate. Below is our official response:

"The three Residents' Associations co-hosting our Ward 1 All-Candidates Debate on October 15, 2018 agree there is insufficient time to adequately explore municipal issues with eight (8) Councillor candidates and also accommodate the Public School Board Trustee candidates (the Catholic school board Trustee has been acclaimed).

"Our All-Candidates Meeting is focused upon municipal issues that directly concern our respective associations. While we recognize the importance of the Public School Board we suggest that exploring education issues is best left to the Parent Councils associated with most schools.

"Since we are hosting a public meeting it is expected that some Trustee candidates will choose to attend. We will make convenient table space available for their campaign literature inside the doors to Clarke Hall. Their presence will be briefly announced at the beginning of the meeting, and they will be free to meet with any members of the audience who seek them out once our formal meeting concludes (shortly after 9:00 pm).

"Trustee candidates will not be permitted to make political statements during the Public Question Segment of the meeting.

"NOTE: Questions to the Councillor candidates may only be asked by residents of Ward 1."
