2010 FALL/WINTER ACTIVE MISSISSAUGA GUIDE NOW AVAILABLE: The Fall/Winter Active Mississauga Guide produced by Recreation and Parks Services is now available online, and in hard copy in all community centres (e.g. Cawthra CC) and libraries (e.g. Cooksville branch). Lists programs and activities for all ages. Online Registration begins on Sat. August 14 and in-person Registration on Sat. August 21.
'BRIARWOOD' SITE DEVELOPMENT: The Committee of Adjustment will consider requests for variances (click to view the Notice of Public Hearing) regarding Phase 2 of this site development on Thurs. August 12 @ 1:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber. Click for further info, picture and ongoing updates about the Briarwood site development.
PORT CREDIT YOUTH DROP-IN: On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays @ 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. at CLARKE HALL (map). Free video games, foosball, board games, crafts and more! Ages 10-14. And ....
PORT CREDIT YOUTH 'REC & ROLL' DROP-IN: On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays @ 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at PORT CREDIT MEMORIAL PARK (map). Ages 10-14 (some flexibility with younger ages). Each Wednesday, youth are invited to swim at Cawthra Pool -- bus transportation will be provided free of charge. For those who do not attend trips days (e.g. Blue Jays game, Bowling, Playdium) or swimming days, normal drop-in activities (drama, waterfront, karaoke, scavenger hunts, etc.) will still occur in the Park (under the Gazebo in hot weather). Trip information, including costs, will be provided to the youth approx. one week prior to the scheduled dates. Run by Bryan, Tryston and Danielle with the City Parks and Rec Dept. POOL CLOSURES:
All but one of the City's outdoor pools are closed this summer for renovations made possible by the Infrastructure Stimulus Funding (ISF) program with the provincial and federal governments. This has attracted media coverage and resident complaints especially during the heatwave! Good news for PC is that nearby Westacres outdoor pool is open, with extended hours to 9:30 p.m. There are also 18 spashpads open (including the newly-upgraded one at Jack Darling Park) and 11 indoor pools that are open. ROTARY OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHTS: Remaining dates: Fridays: August 6, 13, and 27 @ 8:15 p.m. (Dusk). ADULT-ORIENTED MOVIE: Saturday, July 31 (at dusk) will feature Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

GREAT ONTARIO SALMON DERBY: Sat. July 10 - Sat. August 28. Port Credit Weigh Station: Marina Park boat launch, Front St. S. (map) by our unique full fish-cleaning station. With its world renowned fishery, Port Credit Harbour and its charter fishing fleet (largest on the Canadian side of Lake Ontario) is official home to the Derby, which is the largest fresh-water fishing derby in the world! PORT CREDIT IN-WATER BOAT SHOW: August 27-29. Port Credit Harbour Marina, 1 Port Street East (map). Click here for the Boat Show website. 20th year! The only in-water show on Lake Ontario that has used and new boats, both power and sail. Explore over 100 boats both sail and power, new and used. Browse the land displays, listen to the jazz band and live entertainment. Drop in on the speakers at the Speakers Tent. Enjoy being with boats and boaters!
GRANGESTOCK: Saturday, August 28 @ 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Heritage Mississauga’s 2nd Annual Music and Art Festival. FREE ADMISSION. LOCATION: The grounds of the historic Robinson-Adamson House, “The Grange”, in the heart of Mississauga at 1921 Dundas St. West (click for map) one block west of Mississauga Road. Grangestock will feature the old time rock and blues of the Jerry Stiff Band as well as multimedia artists who will be demonstrating and selling their works in the vendors village. Ice-cold beer supplied by Port Credit's Old Credit Brewery. All proceeds from refreshment sales (incl. SOUTHSIDE SHUFFLE BLUES & JAZZ FESTIVAL: September 10-12. MAIN STAGE: Port Credit Memorial Park; Street Shuffle on Lakeshore Rd. (map). Click here for the Southside Shuffle website. This is the 12th annual event, with Canadian and international acts. Entertainment on the Main Stage, and in local bars and restaurants. The Street Shuffle takes place on Saturday from 2-6 p.m., with Lakeshore Road closed off to traffic.
DOORS OPEN MISSISSAUGA: Saturday, September 18 @ 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. This year's Doors Open event focuses on the city's west end. Participating sites are located in (west) Port Credit, Clarkson, Erindale, Streetsville, Meadowvale and even newly annexed land from Milton. In 2002, the Ontario Heritage Trust launched Doors Open Ontario, the first province-wide event of its kind in Canada. This event provides a behind-the-scenes look at the city's commercial buildings, places of worship, civic buildings, gardens and heritage sites. This event is presented by the City of Mississauga (click for webpage article), as part of the Doors Open Ontario program. TOUR DE MISSISSAUGA: Sunday, September 19 @ 9:00 a.m. Online registration is open now, including an online waiver. Last year's Tour started in Port Credit and toured the SW quadrant of the City. This year's TdeM starts at Vic Johnston Arena in Streetsville. The three routes (25k, 60k and 100k) will focus on the NW quadrant of the City and tour Old Meadowvale Village, Streetsville, Lisgar and natural areas including the Credit River (Culham Trail).
